🛂 Important Update: Renew Your IRP Card Early If You Plan to Travel Over Christmas 2024

As we move closer to the festive season, many members of our Indian community in Sligo and across Ireland may be planning trips to visit loved ones abroad. The Indian Association of Sligo is sharing this important update from the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) to help ensure your travel plans go smoothly and without last-minute stress.

ISD Advisory on IRP Renewals for the Christmas Period

The Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) has urged all non-EEA nationals, including Indian citizens legally residing in Ireland, to renew their Irish Residence Permit (IRP) cards early if they intend to travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The ISD Registration Office at Burgh Quay, Dublin, is currently experiencing a very high volume of renewal applications, with a processing time of approximately 3–4 weeks. Once processed, it can take up to two additional weeks to receive the new IRP card by post.

An in-date IRP card is required for travel in and out of Ireland. Without it, returning to the country may be difficult or delayed — especially during the busy holiday travel period.

What You Should Do

If your current immigration permission is due to expire between now and your travel dates, or during your time abroad, the ISD strongly recommends submitting your renewal application online by 31 October 2024.

You can renew your IRP card online here:

ISD has noted that applications submitted after 31 October 2024 may not be processed in time to facilitate Christmas travel, although every effort will be made to do so.

Important Note

Regardless of when you apply, the validity period of your renewed permission will begin from the expiry date of your current permission, not from the date of renewal.
